Yoga

To be still and to move,
to move and to be still,
this is the art of Yoga.

The aim of Yoga is to link the outer and the inner, the body and the mind, the person and the universe. Within the Yoga movement there are many different approaches, Hatha Yoga is one of them. It starts with the body, giving it permission and encouraging it to stretch and relax. This can have profound effects on how we feel, so we are more at ease with ourselves, and more connected within and with the world around.

The Yoga poses, called Asanas, strengthen and align the body. This takes time and practice. The ultimate aim of Yoga is to calm the fluctuations of the mind. That does not mean that we should not use our minds. No. It means we want to be able to switch off from the constant rumblings of the brain. If the energy, which is used to suppress this background noise, is freed, it can be a relief. This released energy can help to uplift the spirit and balance mind and body.

With breathing and relaxation a compassionate attitude towards self and others is fostered. Meditation helps reflection, which enables the practitioner to develop a more tranquil attitude towards life.
