National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) - NICE - The National Institute for Clinical Excellence - was set up as a Special Health Authority for England and Wales on 1 April 1999. It is part of the National Health Service (NHS), and its role is to provide patients, health professionals and the public with authoritative, robust and reliable guidance on current “best practice”. The guidance will cover both individual health technologies (including medicines, medical devices, diagnostic techniques, and procedures) and the clinical management of specific conditions. La Leche League - Breastfeeding Information - this is an excellent website on breastfeeding and has a network of helpers. This link goes to the breastfeeding section.
BirthChoiceUK - Good site for statistics about Maternity Hospitals in the UK. There is also a section on explaining terms used in medical interventions. The site is helpful when deciding on where to have your baby.
Mothers 35 Plus - Website for ‘older mothers’. It has sections with information , facts and figures, health, research, tests real life stories and a messageboard. It has a sensitive approach to issues like still birth and miscarriage.
Homebirth Reference Site - This site aim is to persuade women to have home births. It has a lot of research papers that have both a plain English summary and also a link to the paper. There is a good links page for related sites. Informative site even if you will not be having a home birth.
The Baby Centre - This is the sister site of the US BabyCenter. It aims to provide expectant parants with all the information that they may need. The information is well presented and there is lots to choose from. There are Birth stories and a Pregnancy Calendar that you can also subscribe to so you get an email with details of what’s going on each week.

Encyclopaedia of Pregnancy and Birth - This is a useful site for looking things up. Its part of the www.babydirectory.com website which gives you information relating to children by geographical location.
Natural Parenting UK - A commercial alternative parenting site with a good mix of sections on things like pregnancy,birth,childraising and education. Has an extensive selection of links to sites like breast feeding and midwifery sites.
Active Birth Centre - This is a commercial website that has a lot of useful resources. There are articles on pregnancy, baby development and birth. The philosophy of Active Birth is the main focus and they even have a manifesto. Its a well designed and professional looking site with good content.
Childbirth.org - This is a US site that is full of useful and informative articles. It has sections on cesareans, feeding, health and much more. Its FAQS are very extensive and cover just about everything you can think of.
