Monika Celebi Steiner BA MA UKCP Reg Psych. SRDMT, NCT ed, IYT
Biographical Information I have worked in the field of psychotherapy and counselling for over
25 years. Originally I trained as a movement therapist at the University of Haifa, then in psychoanalytic-existential psychotherapy at the Institute for Psychotherapy and Social Studies
in London. Afterwards I completed my Masters in psychoanalytic psychotherapy with the Guild of Psychotherapists and the University of Hertfordshire.
In the past I was the organiser of a Shelter for women suffering from domestic violence, worked as a movement therapist in psychiatric
institutions in Austria, Israel and England, taught movement therapy at the Arts Therapies Department of the University of Hertfordshire. I have facilitated birth preparation groups for
mothers and couples and mother and baby groups. For the last twenty years I have seen clients in my private practice and provided supervision to professionals.
My approach My approach to health is holistic. I believe that mind and body are linked and influence each
other. Body awareness, mindfulness and communication are the three touchstones of my thinking. Anyone can learn this approach. The idea is that over time you will become more at ease with yourself and with others.
Current areas of my work I work part-time as Counsellor with mothers and babies at the Oxford Parent Infant Project,
which aims to promote attachment between parents and babies in the first two years of life.
I facilitate baby massage groups to support mothers and babies in their process of bonding with
each other at the Asian Cultural Centre in Oxford and in Blackbird Leys, where I also work with families.
I support professionals in their work with parents and babies, through supervision and training.
My Private Psychotherapy Practice is in Chalfont St Peter, South Buckinghamshire. I see individuals, couples, parents and babies. I consult parents, who are expecting the birth of their baby and mothers of young babies, who may experience difficulties bonding, or who feel anxious
about themselves as parents.
I also see people who are experiencing problems with relationships, depression, anxiety, bereavement, eating problems, work related problems, or are feeling that their lives are meaningless.
I teach holistic birth preparation classes for Thames Valley Childbirth Educators, with an emphasis on body awareness and the transition to becoming a parent.
I have practiced Yoga and meditation for over 20 years. Now I lead Yoga Movement Meditation groups and workshops.
Professional memberships I am a full member of the United Kingdom Council of Psychotherapists psychoanalytic section,
the Forum of Independent Psychotherapists, the Institute of Psychotherapy and Social Studies; I am a Senior Registered Movement Therapist, a qualified National Childbirth Trust Childbirth
Educator, a qualified baby massage instructor and an Iyengar Yoga teacher
